Broken Car Key Extraction

Difficulty depends on where the break happened and how deep the fragment sits. A tip broken flush at the face is straightforward; a fragment driven past the first wafer stack, or one broken while the cylinder was partly turned, is not.

Have: which lock the key broke in; both pieces of the key if you have them; vehicle year, make and model; whether the vehicle has another working key. Proof of identity and vehicle ownership or written authorisation is required before any key is originated or programmed.

Extraction removes the broken section of a key from a door lock, boot lock or ignition cylinder without damaging the wafers it is wedged between. The remaining piece is then usually the best available reference for cutting a replacement, which is why the fragment is worth keeping.
