Automotive Key Cutting

A key can be cut by duplicating an existing one, or by code where the code is available to the owner or can be read from a lock. Duplicating a worn key copies the wear, which is why a key cut from a code often works better than one cut from a twenty-year-old original.

Have: an existing key, if one exists; vehicle year, make and model; whether the key is edge-cut, laser-cut or high-security; any key code you hold from the original documentation. Proof of identity and vehicle ownership or written authorisation is required before any key is originated or programmed.

Cutting is the mechanical half of a key job. An automotive blade may be a traditional edge-cut, a laser-cut or sidewinder profile milled into the flat of the blade, or a high-security design with internal tracks. Each needs different equipment and a correct blank; a close-enough blank is not close enough.

It is offered as mobile service across Hampton Roads, Tidewater, the Peninsula, Western Tidewater, the regional airports and Virginia's Eastern Shore. Whether a specific vehicle is eligible is confirmed before a job is treated as scheduled.

For eligible jobs, mobile service can be coordinated at many accessible locations when the owner or authorized party can approve service and site rules allow access.
