Diagnosis comes first. Rocking the steering wheel gently while turning the key releases a loaded steering lock; shifting firmly into park and back resolves many automatics. If neither changes anything, the fault is in the key or the cylinder, and which one determines the work.

Have: whether the steering wheel is locked hard in one direction; whether the vehicle is definitely in park; whether the key is the original or a copy; whether it has become gradually harder over time. Proof of identity and vehicle ownership or written authorisation is required before any key is originated or programmed.

A key that enters the ignition but will not turn is usually reporting one of four things: the steering lock is loaded against the column, the transmission is not fully in park, the key has worn past the point of aligning the wafers, or the cylinder itself has failed. Three of those four are not locksmith problems, and the first two cost nothing to rule out.
